Talara Primary College delivers an extensive extracurricular program, with limited opportunities for highly committed students to apply for our Performing Arts Excellence Teams. Run by passionate and dedicated teachers, all students are encouraged to audition for our Dance Excellence, Drama Excellence and Choir Excellence Teams to develop courage, resilience, confidence and problem-solving skills and become team players. Students are also given the opportunity to acquire 21st century technical skills in our Excellence Teams. A high level of commitment is required for all Team members.
The Dance Excellence Team rehearse approximately 3 hours per week, with some weekend participation required. Technique is taught to the students which includes basic ballet fundamentals, Jazz accents and musical rhythms, as well as Hip Hop, with a variety of freestyle movements.
Throughout the year, our Dance Excellence Team participates in a variety of performance opportunities including concerts, fetes and eisteddfods, with competitive results and placings on numerous occasions.
The Drama Excellence Team rehearse approximately 2 hours per week, with some weekend participation required. Students develop various drama techniques such as, vocal dynamics, body language, emotion, use and awareness of space (audience) and character behaviours.
Throughout the year, our Drama Excellence Team also participates in a variety of performance opportunities including concerts, fetes and speech eisteddfods, with successful results, taking out the trophy on a number of occasions to date.
The Choir Excellence Team rehearse weekly. Students are given training in vocal technique with vibrato, breath training and vowel vocal technique, to name a few.
Throughout the year, our Choir Excellence Team participates in a variety of performance opportunities including concerts, fetes and competitions as they arise.
Auditions for Dance and Drama Excellence take place in term 4, for the following year. While our Choir Excellence team auditions at the commencement of the school year.
