From 17-23 August 2019 we celebrate CBCA Book Week with a visit from
the outstanding author Peter Carnavas on Tues 20 & Wed 21 August.
Talara’s amazing P & C once again sponsor the engaging author visit
which ignites passion for students to continue their writing journey.
Carnavas’s Blue Whale Blues was awarded the Society of Children's Book
Writers and Illustrators Crystal Kite Award in 2016 and My Sister is a
Superhero (written by Damon Young) won an Australian
Book Industry Award in 2017. His novel, The Elephant, won the
Children's Book Award at the Queensland Literary Awards in 2018 and was
short-listed in the CBCA Book Week Awards.
COSTUME DRESS-UP DAY
Costume dress-up day will take place on Wednesday 21 August. “Helping
Hands” have sponsored this event with one student from every class
having an opportunity to win “most original costume”. Special year level
parades will occur throughout Wednesday whereby students will be
awarded their Angus and Robertson Book Vouchers. You are welcome to
dress-up with the theme “READING is my SECRET POWER” or as your
favourite book character.
Throughout the year, the Children's
Book Council of Australia (CBCA) works in partnership with authors,
illustrators, publishers, booksellers and other organisations in the
children’s book world to bring images and stories into the hearts and
minds of children and adults. In 1946 the CBCA established annual book
awards to promote Australian children’s books of outstanding literary
and artistic quality. These awards are now the most influential and
highly respected in Australia.
The CBCA Book of the Year Awards
Winner and Honour Books will be announced on Friday 16 August and CBCA
Book Week commences the following day.
