Book Week

“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island and best of all, you can enjoy these riches every day of your life” – Walt Disney
From Monday 20 to Friday 24 August (Week 6) we will be celebrating the CBCA (Children’s Book Council of Australia) award winning titles with special activities in the Library. Great excitement surrounds the buildup for Book Week’s student and teacher Dress-up Day on Wednesday 22 August. It’s time to pop on your thinking caps and think of costume ideas for your favourite book character. Please ensure students costumes are safe, practical and sun safe.  A hat and normal school footwear or similar are essential on the day.
The five CBCA short list categories offer an abundance of opportunities to engage with reading, responding to, and celebrating literature. A strong reading culture is established in partnership through the family and educational journey displaying and supporting “love of literature”. This is achieved with active promotion of literature; children witnessing family reading and discovering books that stimulate children to read more. Many of the Book Week Short List books should be read aloud to stimulate feelings, engage memory from experiences, making reading meaningful and exciting.
